Suri
Sehgal holds a PhD in Plant Genetics from Harvard
University, and a diploma in business management
from Harvard Business School.
He
is the founder & chairman of Misr
Hytech Seed International, Egypt; founder &
chairman of the Sehgal Family Foundation, USA, and
of the Sehgal Foundation, India. He is the former
corporate vice president of Pioneer Hi-Bred International,
now a DuPoint Company and the former director
general and member Board of Directors of Plant
Genetic Systems, Belgium, now a Bayer Crop Science
Company. He is the founder & former chairman
of Proagro Group of Companies, India, which were
acquired by AgrEvo Hoechst Schering in 1998, and
are now owned by Bayer of Germany.
He
served as a trustee of International Institute
of Tropical Agriculture, a CGIAR international
center located in Ibadan, Nigeria, and served
on the board of Diversity, a news journal for
the International Genetic Resources Community.
He is the honorary trustee of the Missouri Botanical
Garden, USA, one of the world's leading centers
for the study of plant diversity, conservation
and botanical field work.
He
is the recipient of silver medal & merit certificates
in 1955 & 1957 from Punjab University, India;
Anna C.Ames memorial scholarship from Harvard
University in 1961; Hungarian agricultural award
from the Ministry of Agriculture, Hungary, in
1984.
Currently
he is actively involved in the development of
rural sector in India through S.M. Sehgal Foundation.
